A magazine for people who finish things

Marginly is an independent magazine of essays, reporting and criticism. We publish fewer stories than we could, give each one an editor and the time it needs, and pay the people who write them.

We started in a spare room with a shared spreadsheet and one rule: nothing goes out that we would not read to the end ourselves. Today 31 stories across 6 sections are online, and most of the bills are paid by readers like you.

The Marginly desk
Independent

No investors, no advertising network, no sponsored content. Readers and a small grant pay for everything.

Edited

Every story is commissioned, edited and fact-checked by a person with a name you can find on the contributors page.

Slow

We publish a few stories a week and keep them online. A good essay does not expire on Friday.
